What led me here?

My grandfather came to America when he was a young boy. His family traveled to America from Stavanger, Norway. I have heard stories of his humor and love of family, all of which was confirmed when my father gave me an album, a collection of articles my grandfather had written for a small newspaper in Decatur, MI. He did not sign his name to it, I presume because he didn't want any backlash. His articles were opinion pieces, written under the pen name, How Come by Gus. The album given to me is rich with the actual articles cut from the newspapers from years ago. There is also poetry and a story about how his life began with my grandmother.

I have always enjoyed putting my thoughts and feelings down on paper, to express myself, and sometimes release emotions that can often be overwhelming. I now understand where this desire came from. I so wish I had been able to meet my grandfather.
